CHALLENGE:
Entering a new trail-camera product late in the retailer buy-in cycle left our sporting goods manufacturing client facing an uphill battle for market share within an already saturated marketplace. We needed to capture buyer’s attention and establish brand equity quickly and, with limited marketing budget. SOLUTION: Research led us to find a controversial photo. Some believed it could be a Sasquatch – and it had created an internet sensation. Seizing the momentum, our team proposed leveraging existing media buys and partnering with a key vendor to create an integrated digital communication platform to grab industry attention and drive consumer excitement. A quick brainstorming session generated the ‘$1,000,000 Sasquatch Challenge’ – a contest offering a $1,000,000 prize to the first person to capture a verifiable trail camera photo of the legendary creature. RESULTS: With very little budget to work with, driving online 'buzz' was a critical need. Our goals were simple: - Get consumers talking to create viral momentum – Establish product awareness among industry buyers and consumers - Open doors with industry buyers to motivate orders from national retailers Media was immediate and the social buzz that followed was exponentially effective. More importantly, industry buyers from the two largest big-box retailers jumped on-board placing orders in a matter of weeks and moving our clients products onto shelf-space previously held by competitors. |
